But the gridded wood and paper creations can be much, much more, says Cherry Tree Design.
The Colorado company that began selling high quality hardwood and rice paper room dividers 15 years ago, now offers stile and rail doors for interior and exterior use.
So how does rice paper hold up to the elements? Just fine when its encased in acrylic or tempered glass.
The company offers a variety of other insert options including leather, brushed metal, hardwood and satin etched glass. Or if you want to go custom, they'll create a door around your panels.
The doors are available in more than 250 configurations from traditional Asian to Mission style. Shown here is an Arts and Crafts style door with sidelites. This is one of five stock stile and rail configurations.
Exterior doors are constructed of a warp resistant hardwood frame with reinforced joints and waterproof glue. A catalyzed urethane finish protects against moisture, dents and scratches.
Most of the company's interior door styles can be used outside with the proper finishing and inserts. Exterior doors are 36" wide by 80" or 84" in height. Custom sizes are also available.
